The Bells

Early in 2004, His Grace Bishop JOSEPH of the Diocese of Los Angeles and the West, was present with us at the Parish of St Timothy to help celebrate our 10th Anniversary as a Parish within the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America.  On the occasion of that visit we had the extra special treat of his blessing "the Bells of St Timothy."

Our six bells were purchased from Blagovest Bells of San Anselmo, California.  They were purchased through generous donations and monetary gifts from parishioners and friends of the Parish.

The bells were made in Russia by Pyatkov & Co., a foundry near Ekaterinburg in Kamensk-Uralskij.

The largest of the bells bears the Icon of our Patron Saint, St Timothy, the Holy Apostle and spiritual son of St Paul.  On the occasion of the blessing of the bells by His Grace Bishop JOSEPH, this special bell was named "Timothy" in honor of our Patron.

Timothy bears the inscription:  "Holy Apostle Timothy, Intercede For Us."  Every time TImothy is rung ("sings"), its "voice" prays and intercedes for us as it calls us to prayer and worship.

The five smaller bells are named, "Ephraim," "George," "Tatiana," "Tarcisius," and "Thecla," in descending order according to size.

Facts About the Bells:

  • Timothy weighs about 203-pounds, is a little more than 20-inches wide at the mouth, and sings G# in the 2nd octave.
  • Ephraim weighs about 93-pounds, and sings A in the 2nd octave.
  • George weighs about 53-pounds and sings C# in the 3rd octave.
  • Tatiana weighs about 35-pounds and sings F# in the 3rd octave.
  • Tarcisius weighs about 22-pounds and sings A in the 3rd octave.
  • Theckla weighs about 13-pounds and sings C in the 3rd octave.
