The Orthodox Church

The Church founded by the Lord Jesus Christ is the Orthodox Church. You'll find the early years of our history recorded in the New Testament.

The continued history of Orthodoxy is traced, unbroken, from Christ and His Apostles to us today. For twenty centuries, Holy Orthodoxy has continued undiminished and unaltered in faith and practice. Her apostolic doctrine, worship, and structure remain intact even into the 21st century. 

The Apostles Paul and Barnabas established a Christian church in Antioch in 42 A.D. Saint Peter served there, as its first bishop, for eight years before he moved on to Rome, to become bishop there. The Church of Antioch is one of the five ancient Patriarchates of the Christian Church, along with Alexandria, Constantinople, Jerusalem, and Rome.

The Antiochian Church in North America

The Church has always been spread by evangelists and by the faithful. When Orthodox Antiochians came from the Middle East to North America, they brought Holy Orthodoxy with them. Today, St Timothy Orthodox Christian Church is a parish of the Antiochian Orthodox Christian Archdiocese of North America.

We are in full communion with our brothers and sisters in various other Orthodox Christian jurisdictions, such as the Greek Orthodox Archdiocese of America and the Orthodox Church in America. Together we work to nurture the Orthodox Christians of this land—whether immigrants or native-born, cradle Orthodox or converts—and to bring our neighbors and all America to the ancient Orthodox Christian Faith. The Orthodox Church remains the living Body of Jesus Christ.
